Suspicious Death Investigation Launched After Body Pulled From MD Apartment

Police in Prince George’s County have launched a death investigation after a body was found inside a burning apartment unit on Wednesday afternoon.

First responders in Hyattsville were called at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, to the 6100 block of 42nd Avenue, where there was a reported apartment fire with one victim found inside, according to police.

Detectives confirmed that there was trauma to the body, and the Prince George’s County Police Department was called in to assist with the investigation.

The man’s death was ruled a homicide. 

Investigators have not confirmed his identity, though they “have reason to believe this was an isolated incident.”

Following the initial investigation, the body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

The homicide is now being investigate by the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Hyattsville Police Chief Jarod Towers said that "it is important to note that a life was lost today," while reiterating that there is no threat to the public.
